Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo March 21, 2019.- Fundación Dolphin Discovery I.A.P. received in the premises of Garrafón Park in Isla Mujeres a group of 45 children and adults with Down Syndrome among other disabilities in order to raise awareness in the community and include the guests in a physical activity called “as capable as you”, organized by the physical enablers of the Youth and Sports Commission (COJUDEQ for its acronym in Spanish).

The Asociación Quintanarroense de Deportes Sobre Silla de Ruedas A.C., CAED Cancún, DIF Quintana Roo, CRIT Quintana Roo, COJUDEQ, and Manos Especiales A.C. are some of the institutions that participated in the activity and who supported all the children and adults that came to the commemoration.

We are happy to receive our guests in the frame of the World Down Syndrome Day. For Fundación Dolphin Discovery it is very important to make the people that have this syndrome feel like they can do everything they want to do because they are just “as capable as you”, and like me, of doing everything they set their minds for. For them to really feel capable we need to raise awareness in the community so that instead of limiting them, cheer them up, accept them, and invite them to be part of the society, and that is just what we are trying to transmit with this activity”, said Guadalupe Jiménez, Board Member of Fundación Dolphin Discovery.

During the activity, they were together with 4 organizers of COJUDEQ and 5 volunteers of Dolphin Discovery in addition to the 40 companions that arrived with the children and adults with disabilities.

It was the first time that the activity was carried out in Garrafon Park, nevertheless, it is not the first time that Dolphin Discovery foundation commemorates the World Down Syndrome Day. Previously, it has carried out similar activities in the different parks and marine mammal habitats that belong to the Dolphin Discovery family.
