Traslado Lobos   The specimens were transported on SEMAR aircraft

  • Fany, Shasta and Mily were the 3 females transferred to the facilities in Aquaventuras park, in Vallarta-Nayarit.
  • The receiving location counts with a male and 2 females of the same species.

Vallarta Nayarit, Mexico on February 9th, 2017 – This morning, 3 specimens of Sea Lion from the Patagonia were transferred to Aquaventuras Park located in Vallarta-Nayarit. The three females were voluntarily given to PROFEPA for its transfer. All in good health, although they present medical conditions due to their advanced age.

PROFEPA was in charge of the coordination of the transfer as well as the Secretary of Navy and Navy of Mexico who supported with the air transfer. In the same way, the team of Veterinary Medicine and Marine Mammal Specialists of Dolphin Discovery Group monitored and accompanied the specimens at all times until their arrival at the facilities.

Through  EngJoel González, General Director of Wildlife Surveillance and Inspection, Marine Resources and Coastal Ecosystems, Dolphin Discovery was requested to support and receive 3 female sea lions belonging to the Convimar company.
After a thorough evaluation to determine the habitat of Dolphin Discovery to which they would be sent, it was decided to go to Aquaventuras since there is a male and 2 females of the same species, in addition, this park has 5 habitats for Sea Lions.

It is important to note that sea lions can be kept out of the water for long periods of time. It is not essential to constantly spray them with water during transit, however they should be kept as fresh as possible during the journey and should not be exposed to direct sunlight and wind currents.

“We are prepared to receive them and give them the necessary care (…). We are grateful for PROFEPA’s trust in having chosen us to welcome the sea lions. This ensures that Dolphin Discovery works under the regulations that the law dictates and motivates us to continue working for the conservation of the species; Always looking for the welfare of the species living under our care, “said Dr. Roberto Sánchez, Director of Veterinary Medicine at Dolphin Discovery Group.

The three specimens transferred will remain in a quarantine period for evaluation and monitoring of their health status. Dolphin Discovery will be in charge of the maintenance and medical care of these new members of the sea lions family.
